Do you want to build large-scale, reliable, fault-tolerant distributed systems and write interactive tools that directly impact the efficiency and productivity of tens of thousands of people processing billions of dollars worth of inventory every year? We are seeking an experienced technology leader to help build world-class software solutions that revolutionize how we operate our fulfillment centers (FCs). In this role, you will be responsible for driving the next generation of our inbound fulfillment technology solutions.
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead your team of engineers in designing, developing, testing, scaling, and optimizing services, tools, and automated solutions for efficiently and effectively managing inbound fulfillment processes in Amazon's global FC network. Your work will be cross-functional with many other teams at Amazon, including Operations, Transportation Optimization, IT, and Finance.
A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences, a strong technical ability, excellent project management and communication skills, commitment to hiring and developing the best engineers, and passion for achieving results in a fast-paced environment.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the overall life-cycle of the software you own
- Creating, prioritizing, communicating, and executing roadmaps, project plans, and commitments
- Reporting on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance
- Working closely with engineers to architect and develop the best technical designs and processes
- Fostering a culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics
- Hiring, coaching, and growing your engineers as you build a strong cross-functional organization
- Interfacing with a diverse customer base to refine requirements, priorities, and processes
- Proposing and implementing new projects, features, and improvements
- Owning all operational metrics and support
- Obsessing over customer experience in everything you do
- Continuously innovating and simplifying our software systems and operations


Desired Skills & Experience
What we look for:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
Software development background in object-oriented programming, distributed systems, Java, C++, Linux/UNIX, and SQL
2+ years of experience managing software development teams with hands-on involvement in system architecture, design, and performance
Deep technical expertise and strong problem-solving and data analysis skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences
The ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A thorough understanding of software development in a team and a strong track record of shipping software


What we would love to see:
Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
Agile software development methodologies
Experience with large database systems
Strong business and technical vision
